Smells like Shabbos Up in Here!

Hello everybody!

Today we welcome Shabbat! That means that we did a slightly different schedule so we could make sure these two days are truly set apart from the rest of the week.

We started spent the first part of the day getting ready for Shabbat. We first got our camp prepared through extended avodah (work time) and nikayon tzrif (bunk cleaning). We then prepared our minds for shabbos through shira (singing time) to make sure all the chanichimot know the songs for Shabbat.

The Madatz ran Pish this morning for various age groups as they do each Friday. The topics included Environmentalism, the use of social media and the importance of not judging people, and the problematizing of celebrity culture.

Then we welcomed Shabbat! This was done through activities like Kabbalat Shabbat, where one kvustah (age group) meets each week and prepares an Israeli dance, a hebrew song, and an English song each week to perform in front of machaneh (camp). This week the Amelimot performed Kabbalat!

Shabbat here at machaneh is not strictly serious business though. We also have the oneg each week. It is a weekly roast of machaneh jokes and this week the Bonimot wrote it and starred in it! Somehow they managed to include many other kvustot (age group) inside jokes.

We also had rikud (Israeli dancing) to end the night. Everybody gets super into the crazy group dances. We sweat, we laugh, we have a good time. The Madatz then put their kids to bed. Some kids who still want to can stay up later and join in the more unknown rikud dances.

Well, that's all for this week. See you all on visitor's day!
-Miriam
