Jewish Resistance Day

Hey everybody!

Today was Jewish Resistance Day which meant we followed a slightly different schedule! We started off with a nice 20 minute sleep-in! Then we had waffles for breakfast! Yummy! We followed the normal schedule from there- avodah (work) and nikayon tzrif (bunk cleaning time)-before we hit pish aleph (first age group activity) where things started becoming a bit different. During this pish everybody discussed how Judaism connects with justice. Then we returned to sports before a lunch of pierogis and broccoli!

Then it was time for the schedule to start changing. We had three different pish bets (2nd age group activities). The older chanichimot had a visit from the Workmen's Circle group and they discussed immigrant rights and justice with a focus on modern America. The Amelimot and Chotrimot had fun in the pool and the Sayarimot had their own discussion on immigration justice.

The younger chanichimot then had some chofesh (free time) and then some schiya chofshit (free swim) while the older chanichimot continued to have their discussions with the Workmen's Circle.
Serious discussions with the Workman's Circle

Later we had slightly different chugim (clubs) then normal. All the chugim today focused on different topics with justice and relation to judaism (i.e. Food Justice and Judaism, Racial Justice and Judaism, and Environmental Justice and Judaism).

We then had shira (song learning time) where we learned a couple of Jewish resistance songs like my personal favorite: If I had a Hammer. We then had Hitkansut erev (flag lowering ceremony) and then dinner!

Our tochnit erev (evening activity) tonight was a deep and meaningful sikkum (conclusion) of the day. Each age group represented either a song/spoken word/poem on the theme of Jewish Resistance. It was a beautiful ending where they shared their personal aspirations for their Jewish community.

That's it for today!
