This morning, we woke up and went to hitkansut and had our traditional Sunday morning breakfast of bagels! The morning was a little bittersweet since we said goodbye to our Nitzanim chanichim. We will miss them, but can't wait to see them next year in Amelim!
Today, Amelim learned about Israel geography, and did 6 activities that corresponded with 6 cities in Israel. They also got to spend some time on the slip and slide this afternoon! Chotrim did a special puelah on Gender. This puelah was actually written by a Chotrim chanich, Aaron Haklay. Now that's youth leadership in action!
Sayarim learned about the Ethiopian Alyiah. This migration to Israel, which started in the late 1970s, includes Operations Moses, Joshua and Solomon. They also participated in instructional swim. The Tzofim spent the day at the Ropes Course. Camp Galil's ropes course teaches teamwork, coordination, and builds self-confidence.
Bonim learned about the Ethiopian Aliyah as part of their preparation for Aliyah Bet (which is a special Camp Galil activity that you'll hear about soon). Bogrim also prepped for Aliyah Bet. The Bogrim also talked about their kvutzah and how it can be a support system during times of need. We are proud to say that the friends that you make in camp will be with you for a lifetime! The Madatz explored the history of education at machaneh, and also got to go through some of the many resources that we have in our Cheder Chinuch (Education Room). We even have puelot available from the 1960s and 1970s!
While I walked around camp during Zman Sports (sports period), I noticed a lot of campers tossing around frisbees, an intense basketball game between some chanichim (campers) and madrichim (counselors) and I noticed something happened to be going on by the gan (garden), so I stopped by to see what was going on. When I got over there I noticed a bunch of chanichim helping our gan specialist expand our garden! It's very exciting to be able to plant even more at machaneh (camp).
Tonight, we are having a tochnit erev on Hanoar Haoevd, which is Habonim Dror's sister movement in Israel. The full name is HaNoar HaOved VeHaLomed, which means the General Federation of Students and Young Workers in Israel. Many of our Israeli tzevet members over the years have come from this movement, and is a great connection to Israel that only Habonim Dror and Hanoar Haoved can offer!
Stay tuned for tomorrow's blog to hear about a special nighttime activity that will be happening tonight! You won't want to miss this!
